Kothari received a PhD from Indiana University and is published in leading academic journals, 包括 非洲和亚洲研究及新闻研究杂志. She has served as an officer for the International Communications Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication for three years.

Her published work interrogates various media discourses of HIV/AIDS, rape, and Muslim identity.
